Chloe is a multifaceted vocalist, composer, and arranger whose work bridges genres and defies categorization. Trained as a classical singer, Chloe moves fluently between early music, new music, folk, experimental, and vocal ensemble traditions. Her artistry is grounded in a deep love of collaboration, harmony, and the expressive potential of the human voice.
Her formal musical journey began at age six, when she was accepted to New York City’s Special Music School to study piano. It was singing in choir, however, that sparked a lifelong devotion to vocal harmony and ensemble work. Today, whether she’s giving a solo recital, composing for treble voices, recording layered arrangements in the studio, or creating original content for social media, Chloe’s creative life is guided by curiosity and a drive to make meaningful, resonant work.
Recent solo engagements include a Guggenheim Works & Process commission—To the Body by Nico Muhly—performed as part of the exhibition Yu Hong: Another One Bites the Dust, concurrent with the 60th Venice Biennale; Leçons de Ténèbrae by Couperin with Saint Andrew Music Society; a solo recital at Lehman College Art Gallery for Concerts in the Heights; and her Alice Tully Hall debut with the American Classical Orchestra. “Holgate wielded a clear straight tone that flexed and tapered beautifully,” wrote the New York Classical Review.
As a member of the vocal trio ModernMedieval Voices, Chloe has performed at The Met Cloisters, Dumbarton Oaks, Washington National Gallery, Princeton University, and Saint Thomas Church. Their debut album, Words of Love and Wisdom (Ulysses Arts, 2023), features works by Hildegard von Bingen and contemporary American composers including Caroline Shaw. The trio was also featured in the premiere of Grammy-winner Christopher Tin’s oratorio To Shiver the Sky with the United States Air Force Band.
In recent seasons, Chloe has performed as a soloist with TENET Vocal Artists, Ensemble Échappé, Chatham Baroque, Kollective366, Folger Consort, and the Prototype Festival, where she appeared in the NYT Critic’s Pick Acquanetta, directed by Daniel Fish. She sings regularly with esteemed ensembles including Musica Sacra, Trinity Wall Street, Voices of Ascension, Virtuoso Singers, and Artefact Ensemble.
As a composer and arranger, Chloe creates vocal-centered music with a focus on treble voices. She performs with her sister, violinist Lily Holgate, under the name Sibyl—a genre-blurring duo rooted in vocal layering, loop-based arranging, and folk-influenced original works. Their debut album will be released later this year.
